Karl Straub was born in North Carolina, USA, and lives since 2012 in Zürich. He was introduced to meditation around the age of 10, and in subsequent years was an athlete, competitive swimmer, dolphin communication researcher, and graduate of Duke University.
He worked as a teacher, artist, and founded one of the world`s first web-hosting companies in 1993. He moved his company to Manhattan in 1999 where he also taught at a boarding school for world-class singers. In 2005 he wanted to dive deeper into yoga and meditation, so he sold or donated his belongings and set off with a backpack to explore. This began an odyssey of 8 years during which he kept no apartment anywhere. He traveled, studied, and eventually taught in over 40 cities in 12 countries. His met teachers Richard Freeman, Zen master Keido Fukushima, Swami Bua, David Life and Sharon Gannon (co-founders of Jivamukti Yoga), and others, who inspired him to continue on the path and to share the way of yoga with precision, depth, and humor.
In 2020 he launched a video channel http://stream.karlstraub.com with free & paid classes. Also in 2020 he opened a new studio, Sanctuary, in Zürich. It is in a historic church with 200 sq meter shala, and hosts events for yoga, movement, vegan meals, and meditation. Karl is a frequent presenter at festivals and conferences, and he offers retreats and workshops worldwide. https://karlstraub.com
